…Applauds Humanitarian Affairs Commissioner

The Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Akwa Ibom State Council, Comrade Nsibiet John , has commended the Akwa Ibom State Government and The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints for their partnership in advancing the welfare of persons with disabilities through skills development and the provision of mobility aids.
Speaking at the closing ceremony of a specialised training programme on wheelchair assembly, fitting and maintenance held at the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs in Uyo, Comrade Nsibiet described the initiative as a practical demonstration of inclusive governance and compassionate leadership.
He noted that the donation of over 263 wheelchairs and 181 walking aids, alongside the training of artisans and clinicians, would not only improve mobility for beneficiaries but also strengthen local capacity for the maintenance and adaptation of assistive devices across the state.
The NUJ Chairman particularly applauded the Commissioner for Humanitarian Affairs, Princess Emem Ibanga, for what he described as her integrity, consistency and commitment to service, noting that these qualities have helped build the confidence and trust that attracted and sustained the partnership with The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
According to him, development partners are more willing to invest in programmes where transparency, accountability and effective leadership are evident.
“Princess Emem Ibanga has demonstrated that integrity remains a valuable currency in public service. The confidence reposed in her ministry by international partners reflects years of consistent and credible leadership. This partnership is a testament to what responsible leadership can achieve when driven by a genuine desire to make a difference in people’s lives,” he said.
Comrade Nsibiet described the initiative as “responsible leadership with a face of positive impact,” stressing that the lives transformed through the provision of mobility aids represent tangible evidence of governance and humanitarian service working together for the benefit of vulnerable citizens.
He also commended Governor Umo Eno for sustaining people-centred policies under the ARISE Agenda and for promoting social inclusion through interventions targeted at persons with disabilities and other vulnerable groups.
The NUJ Chairman assured stakeholders that the media would continue to support disability advocacy through responsible journalism, public enlightenment and sustained coverage of initiatives aimed at improving the quality of life of persons with disabilities.
The event featured goodwill messages from stakeholders, presentation of certificates to participants and the distribution of wheelchairs and other mobility aids to beneficiaries.
