Not fewer than 30 journalists are set to undergo capacity building aimed at building and fostering professional etiquettes.
This was agreed during a meeting between the Clement Isong Foundation and the Nsibiet John-led Akwa Ibom State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists on Monday, August 25, 2025 during a courtesy visit at the NUJ Chairman’s office in Uyo.
Executive Director of the Foundation, Mr. Elkanah Oluyori, disclosed that the training, with the theme “Media/CSO Engagement on Transparency and Accountability,” is scheduled to hold on Friday, August 29, 2025, at the NUJ Secretariat.
Oluyori said the training would equip journalists with the knowledge of how to track Ecological funds and promote accountability in Climate related Interventions. It is believed that this training will also add value to Journalists and their media organizations.
“Our approach is not confrontational but fact-based, and our advocacy is to open the door for constructive engagement rather than attack,” he added.
He also commended Governor Umo Eno for separating the Ministry of Youth Development from the Ministry of Sports, noting that the Foundation played a role in advocating for the policy shift and equally disclosed that the group is working with the Youth Development Ministry to validate the state’s Youth Development Roadmap (2025–2035).
Speaking further, he stressed the Foundation’s commitment to policy and governance reforms through advocacy, collaboration, research, and community mobilization, noting that the proposed collaboration with NUJ would raise public awareness, strengthen development reporting, and ensure transparency in the management of resources meant to impact communities.
In his remarks, the State Chairman of the Union, Comrade Nsibiet John, thanked the Foundation for outlining its engagements and for upholding integrity and transparency in line with its long-standing goals and objectives.
He assured the Foundation of the Union’s readiness to partner with them not only on ecological interventions but also on other advocacies. According to him, journalists who participate in the training will not only benefit personally but will also transfer the knowledge and ideas gained to others. The multiplier effect of this will be excellent.
In attendance at the visit were; the Project Director of the Clement Isong Foundation, Dr. Caroline Gordian; investigative journalist, Mr. Ekemini Simon; and members of the State Working Committee of NUJ.
