…makes case for improved security around Union’s premises
Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Comrade Nsibiet John, has hailed the Akwa Ibom State Commissioner of Police, CP Baba Muhammed Azare for his professional approach towards the security of lives and properties in the state.
Comrade John gave the plaudits during a courtesy visit to the Commissioner of Police, at the State Command Headquarters, Ikot Akpanabia, Uyo, in the early hours of Tuesday, September 2, 2025.
Accompanied by the State Working Committee of the Union, Nsibiet John said the visit was to introduce the new leadership of the Union and also renew the already existing relationship between the Police and journalists in the state.
He described both organisations as partners in progress, especially, in the maintenance of law and order, as well as the protection of lives and valuables.
He lauded CP Azare for his profound intensity in the fight against crime in the state, noting that there has been a significant drop in security cases lately.
“We are happy to be here on this visit. I must commend you Sir, for your touch of professionalism in handling your job. We came here to strengthen that synergy that was already in existence between the Police and the media because we are partners in progress aimed at ensuring the protection of lives and properties in the state.” He said.
Speaking further, Comrade Nsibiet John thanked the Police Boss for his numerous interventions in cases involving journalists in the state. He also made an appeal for improved patrol to be made along the Union’s premises along Information Drive, Uyo as pockets of criminal cases were reported lately.
Responding, CP Mohammed Azare thanked the leadership of the NUJ for the visit and agreed that the media has indeed been helpful in the fight against crime in the state. He congratulated the new leadership of the Union and urged them to uphold fairness and balancing in their reportage.
He also admonished journalists to pay close attention to details when reporting cases while urging them to equip themselves with the provisions of the Cyber Crimes Act as amended.
CP Azare also promised to continue the alliance with the media as their public relations department are always active in attending to distress calls.
High point of the visit was the presentation of a plague to the Chairman of the Union by the Police Commissioner.
Accompanying the State Chairman of the Union were the State Secretary, Mr. Nsikak Esenowo; the Treasurer, Comrade Udeme Hosea; the Assistant Secretary, Comrade Uduak Akai; the State Auditor, Comrade Dianime Uko, Chairman of Sports Writers Association of Nigeria, Comrade Emmanuel Akpan and the Chairman of State Information Chapel, Comrade Edifon Solomon.
