…Set to Empower Trainees with Starter Kits, Cash Prizes
The Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB), in partnership with Nexus Alliance Ltd., has trained over 50 Akwa Ibom youths in photography, content creation and video editing, as part of efforts to provide sustainable and profitable sources of livelihood.
The one-month training program, which began on Monday, August 11, 2025, is scheduled to conclude on Friday, September 5, 2025.
Speaking at the opening of the training, the Executive Director of Nexus Alliance Ltd., Mr. Ken Igboanugo, said that the empowerment initiative was designed to equip youths with skills in the booming online creative economy. According to him, the program is designed to empower trainees with valuable skills they might not ordinarily be able to afford to acquire, while also discouraging involvement in unlawful activities by providing them with sustainable and legitimate alternatives.
He disclosed that participants were provided with training kits, manuals, customized bags, T-shirts, face caps, daily stipends for transportation and data, as well as feeding allowances to ease their participation. At the end of the program, he said, beneficiaries will receive starter kits, cash support, and a one-year mentorship to help them build sustainable businesses.
Speaking further, Mr. Ken explained that Nexus Alliance Ltd., incorporated in 1998, has been at the forefront of providing technical training in Nigeria, where it has trained thousands of Nigerians, many of whom now play key roles in managing the country’s oil and gas industry.
“This program is one of many initiatives undertaken by Nexus in its bid to increase the capacity of Nigerian youths across all sectors of the economy. We remain committed to promoting self-development, excellence, and partnerships with organizations toward building a better society where citizens can thrive,” he added.
He urged the participants to take full advantage of the training, remain productive, and work towards becoming self-reliant.
Some of the beneficiaries who have participated in the ongoing training shared their experiences, including Elizabeth Bassey, who applauded the organizers, noting that within three weeks she had been able to sharpen her storytelling skills, gain clarity of purpose, and refine her creative strategies.
She said the tutors including a renowned film maker, Afilmbyjay has exposed her to new tools, business strategies, and creative techniques that have given her confidence to pursue content creation as a thriving business.
“I have gained valuable exposure to innovative tools, and learning how to monetize my skills in videography and photography is something I truly appreciate. I am grateful to NCDMB, Nexus Alliance, and the tutors for this opportunity,” she said.
Another participant, Sidney Ubon, commended the transparency and credibility of the program. He noted that unlike some empowerment initiatives that fall short of expectations, the NCDMB/Nexus training provided practical learning, meals, stipends, and quality equipment for hands-on experience.
“This feels like a Masterclass, although I had basic knowledge of photography and video editing, this training has exposed me to advanced equipment and techniques. The organizers and tutors have given their very best to ensure we succeed in this profession,” he explained.
The one-month training program will formally conclude on Friday, September 5, 2025, with participants receiving starter kits and cash support.
