The Ime Umanah Chambers of the Faculty of Law, University of Uyo, has honoured three generations of leadership in the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Akwa Ibom State Council, with Professional Excellence Awards.
Recipients of the awards include the Chairman of NUJ in the state, Comrade Nsibiet John; Immediate Past Chairman of the Union now the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Local Media, Comrade Amos Etuk and the former Chairman of NUJ in the state, Elder Patrick Albert.
The recognition was conferred during the Night of Laurels, Dinner and Awards Ceremony held on Friday, September 19, 2025, at the prestigious hall of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) Secretariat, Uyo.
According to the organisers, the awards were in acknowledgment of their outstanding contributions to the development of journalism and the advancement of media practice in Akwa Ibom State.
In his remarks, Comrade John congratulated the Principal Partner and members of Ime Umanah Chambers for hosting an event that went beyond law to honour excellence across professions.
He assured that the media will continue to partner with the legal profession to uphold values of justice and fairness in society. “For us as media practitioners, this event will remain fresh in our hearts because of the values it represents, you are not just the hope of people who will need your services, but also the hope of the future of this country,” he said.
He further commended Hon. Justice Winifred Effiong, a Judge of the State High Court and Grand Patron of the IUC, for her zeal in fostering synergy between the judiciary and journalists, urging for stronger collaborations in the interest of justice and good governance.
Earlier, the 23rd Principal Partner of the Chambers, Nsikakabasi Albert, who presented the plaques described John, Etuk and Albert as exemplary professionals whose works continue to inspire both the media and society.
He noted that the recognition was also aimed at strengthening the bond between the legal and journalism communities in promoting justice, accountability, and truth especially for young people like them who are coming up in the industry.
Others, who were honoured at the event include the Grand Patron of Ime Umanah Chambers (IUC), Faculty of Law, University of Uyo, Hon. Justice Winifred Effiong, Barr. Ime Udofia among other leaders.
