…As Federated Chapel Officially Receives Him
The Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Akwa Ibom State Council, Comrade Nsibiet John, has emphasized the need for unity and cooperation among journalists as key drivers for effective service delivery and stronger representation within the Union.
He made this call on Thursday, September 25, 2025, during a homecoming and reception organized in his honour by the Federated Chapel of the NUJ at the Chapel Secretariat, Ukana Offot, Uyo.
Addressing members of the Chapel, Comrade John expressed deep gratitude for their unwavering support during the last electioneering period, describing their solidarity as pivotal to his emergence as State Chairman. He urged journalists to continue to work in harmony, stressing that the profession can only attain greater heights through collaboration, shared responsibility, and mutual trust.
“The dividends of unity and cooperation are enormous, hence, it is only through effective collaboration, meaningful contributions, and untapped unity that the Chapel and the Union at large will experience unprecedented growth, effective success, and credible representation,” he said.
The NUJ boss assured members of his commitment to an inclusive leadership style where all Chapels under the Union would be carried along in decision-making and capacity-building initiatives. He acknowledged the challenges of leading a body of intelligent, independent-minded professionals but maintained that with the support of members and the grace of God, his administration would deliver on its mandate.
Reaffirming his campaign promises, Comrade John assured that his leadership would focus on training, empowerment, and improved welfare for members, while encouraging Chapel members to take up full responsibilities, leadership roles as the opportunities abound within the Union and should be embraced with dedication.
In his words:“You don’t need to be the most intelligent to lead; what you need is God’s grace and the support of those you lead. I believe that for every calling, there is an anointing, and with that anointing, we shall fulfill the promises we made to our members.”
The NUJ Chairman also lauded past leaders of the Federated Chapel for their role in strengthening the Union, particularly in training and mentorship, assuring that his administration would build on those foundations to open new opportunities for members.
Earlier in his remarks, the Chairman of the Federated Chapel, Comrade Bassey Ibiatisuho, commended the NUJ Chairman for his outstanding performance within just six weeks in office, noting that he has already begun fulfilling some of his campaign promises.
Comrade Ibiatisuho assured the State Working Committee (SWC) of the Chapel’s unalloyed support, pledging full cooperation and partnership to ensure the success of the administration. “We have unanimously resolved to support this administration because we are confident in the calibre of leaders we elected, knowing they will work to promote the welfare and well-being of members,” he said.
Delivering goodwill messages, the Immediate Past Assistant Secretary of the NUJ, Comrade Mfon Hanson; the Immediate Past vice Chairman of the Chapel, Comrade Imo Etukukoh and Comrade Gideon Ekere congratulated the NUJ Chairman and his Executive members. They described him as a promise keeper and servant leader whose impact and leadership style continue to resonate positively across Chapels and the Union.
Speaking further, they commended him for his openness, accessibility, and commitment to giving members equal opportunities to benefit from training, capacity-building programmes, and other innovative initiatives aimed at enhancing professional development. Leaders also urged him to remain focused and steadfast in the discharge of his duties.
The event climaxed with prayers offered by the Chapel for the State Working Committee, seeking divine protection, grace, and unity for a successful administration.
