… Showcases Projects, Sets to Commission Modern Motor Park with Brand-New Buses
The Executive Chairman of Etinan Local Government Area, Hon. Uko Friday Umoh, has highlighted his administration’s achievements in its first year in office, emphasizing the transformative impact of his life touching projects across the twelve wards of the local government area.
Speaking during a press briefing held on Monday, October 6, 2025, at the Council Secretariat, Etinan, Hon. Umoh said his administration has made significant strides in transforming the lives of the people.
The Council Boss explained that his administration has demonstrated and domesticated the Arise Agenda of the Governor, Pastor Umo in infrastructural development, education, sports, health, and humanitarian services, all aimed at improving the lives of residents at the grassroots.
He attributed the successes recorded to the unity and cooperation between the legislative and executive arms of the council, which, according to him, has enabled effective service delivery and accountability.
“We have achieved so much for our people who overwhelmingly gave us the mandate because of the unity that exists between the legislative and executive arms of the council. We are all united for a common purpose of bringing development to our respective communities,” the council boss stated.
Hon. Umoh disclosed that his administration had prioritized opening up rural communities through road grading and rehabilitation, utilizing the council’s grader, which had been dormant for about seven years before his assumption of office.
He added that the Legislative Building was also renovated, with functional toilet facilities installed to replace the uncompleted structures that were previously in place.
In line with his “turning waste to wealth” vision, the council rehabilitated five water projects in Afaha Akpan Ekpo, Ikot Udo Otto, Ikot Eba, Iwor Etor, and Ayam Efa communities. Generating sets were also provided to power electric pumps in the areas.
Additionally, the council erected new concrete poles and replaced damaged electricity transformers to improve power supply across Etinan.
Hon. Umoh noted that, beyond participating in federal immunization programs, the council had renovated a Primary Health Centre at Ndon Utim, ensuring that healthcare services were brought closer to residents in Urban Ward 2.
In the education sector, over 20,000 branded exercise books were distributed to public primary schools, while 250 pupils of the newly commissioned Government Model School, Ikot Isong, received free school uniforms.
The administration also purchased UTME forms for 500 students, with a scholarship promise for those who excel and gain admission into tertiary institutions.
Highlighting achievements in sports, the Chairman announced the renovation of the Etinan Sports Stadium, a project that has yielded positive results with Etinan emerging 4th on the medal table at the just-concluded Akwa Ibom Sports Festival (Ibom 2025).
The council also extended assistance to the wives and widows of fallen legionnaires, donating wrappers and ₦1 million during the Armed Forces Remembrance Day. In addition, mobility aids such as wheelchairs and crutches were given to persons with disabilities, while others benefited from Christmas grants and scholarships.
Speaking further, Hon. Umoh unveiled plans to commission an ultra-modern motor park along the Etinan-Uyo Expressway and donation of twelve (12) brand new Buses for indigenes of Etinan to commence operation, describing it as the administration’s flagship project.
“Our interest in the motor park is to drive traffic to Etinan and make it a destination from major cities in the country, therefore , upon completion, it will not only be an aesthetic landmark but also a major source of revenue for the local government,” he said.
He explained that the park will feature lock-up stores, a warehouse, car wash, place of convenience, and is expected to generate between ₦5 million and ₦10 million annually for the development and growth of the area.
Similarly, he asserted that the construction of a leisure park at Etinan Roundabout is underway to create a welcoming environment for visitors and residents, to compliment the agenda of the governor of making Akwa Ibom State a centre for tourism.
Hon. Umoh expressed gratitude to his team and the people of Etinan for their support, urging them to continue collaborating with his administration to sustain development across the wards.
“I owe every member of the team a deep sense of gratitude for being the foot soldiers that interpreted our vision. I also call on well-meaning people of Etinan to join hands with our administration in leaving enduring legacies,” he said.
