Nine out of ten former Speakers of the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly have unanimously declared their unflinching support for the re-election of Governor Umo Bassey Eno in 2027, insisting that no coalition, no matter how powerful or well-funded, will succeed in derailing his second-term bid.

The declaration formed part of a communiqué issued at the end of the 2025 Annual Conference of Former Speakers of State Legislatures of Nigeria, Akwa Ibom State Wing, held on Thursday, October 30, 2025, at D’Angelo Hotel, Ewet Housing Estate, Uyo.

In the communiqué jointly signed by nine former presiding officers of the state legislature, the group affirmed that their decision followed a thorough and objective assessment of the Umo Eno administration’s performance, particularly in budget implementation, infrastructure, and grassroots development.

According to the communiqué, the former Speaker, under the aegis of the Conference of Former Speakers of State Legislatures, Akwa Ibom State Wing expressed “unwavering confidence and unflinching support” for Governor Eno, noting that his achievements under the A.R.I.S.E Agenda have brought unity and steady growth to the state.

“As former custodians of legislative oversight, our assessment is based on facts and performance indices, not sentiment or partisan interests,” the communiqué read. “The tangible progress achieved under Pastor Umo Eno’s leadership in fostering peace, inclusiveness, and development across Akwa Ibom State is both remarkable and commendable.”

The former Speakers also lauded the cordial relationship between Governor Eno and the President of the Senate, Senator Godswill Obot Akpabio, GCON, describing it as a partnership that has strengthened political stability and facilitated socio-economic progress in the state.

They further endorsed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, as their preferred candidate for the 2027 presidential election, citing the alliance between the federal and state leadership as crucial for continuity and development.

The communiqué also cautioned political actors against divisive tendencies and smear campaigns, warning that such acts could jeopardize the peace and progress currently being enjoyed in the state.

“No coalition, no matter how vociferous or well-funded, will succeed in thwarting the re-election bid of His Excellency Pastor Umo Bassey Eno, Ph.D., as Governor of Akwa Ibom State in 2027,” the communiqué stated firmly.

Reaffirming their loyalty to the state’s progress, the former Speakers appealed to political stakeholders and citizens to unite behind Governor Eno’s vision for sustained peace, stability, and prosperity.
