A leading name in the energy sector, Seplat Energy Plc, has commended the leadership and capacity of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Akwa Ibom State Council, describing the Council’s performance as excellence and transformative.
The General Manager, Public Affairs, Seplat Energy Plc, Mr. Ogechukwu Udeagha, made this known on Thursday, November 6, during a courtesy visit to the State NUJ Chairman, Comrade Nsibiet John in Uyo.
Mr. Udeagha commended Comrade John, for his purposeful leadership and remarkable achievements in just three months in office, describing him as “a leader with vision and direction.”
He noted that Seplat Energy has maintained a cordial relationship with the NUJ in Akwa Ibom for over a decade and expressed delight that the council remains “the most organized and result-driven NUJ body in the country.”
“The media is a powerful tool for change, we will continue to partner with you, but that does not mean you should overlook areas we can improve on, we encourage constructive feedback because it will help us grow as a company, and we value that partnership,” he added.
He observed the crucial role of the media in corporate accountability, adding that Seplat Energy values transparent communication and will continue to support initiatives that promote professionalism, capacity building, and development-oriented journalism.
While assuring that the company will extend its hand of fellowship through partnerships and collaborations to the NUJ as preparations for the 2025 Press Week intensify, he maintained that they believe in value-driven initiatives that create change in the society.
In his response, Comrade Nsibiet John, Chairman of the NUJ Akwa Ibom State Council, expressed appreciation to Seplat Energy for its long-standing support and corporate engagement with the Union.
He highlighted the Union’s achievements in the last three months to include: training of members of the Union on capacity building programmes, infrastructure upgrade at the Secretariat, provision of free internet services, Football Pitch through Partnership with FLON Sports and other partnerships aimed at improving members’ welfare.
Comrade John also commended Governor Umo Eno for fulfilling the long-standing call by the NUJ to reposition and modernize the Akwa Ibom Broadcasting Corporation (AKBC), a project he said would revolutionize broadcast journalism in the state through digital archiving, clearer transmission, and improved content production.
He assured that the Union will continue to promote transparency, professionalism, and partnership with development-focused organizations like Seplat Energy.
In their separate remarks, the Chairman of the 2025 Press Week Planning Committee, Comrade Ndanti Ekuh, and the Secretary, Comrade NseAbasi Valentine, appreciated Seplat Energy for its support and commitment, noting that the partnership will foster deeper collaboration and more impactful engagements in the media and energy sectors.
They outlined activities lined up for the week-long celebration to include: a Thanksgiving service, a symposium, dinner and award night, during which outstanding journalists will be recognised and honoured, while soliciting the company’s support and collaboration to ensure a successful and memorable event.
Also present during the visit were members of the State Working Committee including, Vice Chairman, Comrade Margaret Moore, Secretary, Comrade Nsikak Esenowo, Assistant Secretary, Comrade Uduak Akai, Treasurer, Comrade Udeme Hosea, Auditor, Comrade Dianime Uko, NWOJ Chairman, Comrade Nsikak Okon and Chair of Chair, Comrade Grace Udoma.
