A’Ibom NUJ Chairman Pledges to Prioritize Welfare, Collaboration, Professionalism

The newly-elected Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Akwa Ibom State Council, Comrade Nsibiet John, has pledged to lead an administration built on the core principles of welfare, collaboration, and professionalism.

Comrade John made this known during an official handover ceremony held on Thursday 7 August 2025 at the NUJ Press Centre, Information Drive, Off IBB, Uyo.

He reassured members of his commitment to the union’s growth, and stated that his leadership would focus on fostering a strong, unified council, upholding journalistic practice and improving the welfare of all members.

The 13th State Chairman of the Union stressed his commitment to transparency and open dialogue, assuring that he will run an open-door policy where members could criticize constructively for the growth of the Union and society.

Also speaking, the Immediate Past Chairman, Comrade Amos Etuk, appreciated God Almighty for a successful administration.

He extended his gratitude to his Executive Members, State Working Committee, other stakeholders and entire members for their unwavering support throughout his administration.

Comrade Etuk described the newly sworn-in Chairman as a worthy successor who has served diligently and understands the modus operandi of good governance and effective leadership.

Earlier in their goodwill messages, Campaign Director General, Nene Afia Campaign Team, Eneh John, Phd., Mr. Linus Udoma; the Chairman of Chapel Chairman, Mr Mfon Uye; the Campaign Director General, Comrade Edifon Solomon and Chairman of Campaign Council, Elder Edet Okpo expressed optimism and satisfaction in the leadership of the Immediate Past Chairman, Comrade Amos Etuk.

They congratulated the new chairman and expressed optimism that he would perform excellently.
