DIG Ekpoudom Fetes Women in Etim Ekpo
….Commends Senator Akpabio’s leadership prowess
The former Deputy Inspector General of Police, (DIG) Udom Ekpoudom (retd) has continued his tradition of celebrating women by distributing Christmas packages across 8 Villages in Etim Ekpo Local Government Area.
This year’s gesture took place on Tuesday 24th December in his hometown, Uruk Atai Ebo where he distributed wrappers, food items including rice and garri to widows and other women in the community.
In his remarks, Ekpoudom noted that the purpose of the celebration is in recognition of the women’s steadfast support for the All Progressives Congress (APC) and their role in the election of His Excellency, Godswill Akpabio which led to his emergence as the Senate President.
“It is my tradition to always appreciate and celebrate the women during festive season for their unwavering loyalty to the party and their belief in the vision of our leaders. Their active participation in social and political activities cannot be overlooked, hence the need to feed and cloth them most especially in this period where the economic situation is challenging,” he added.
Furthermore, he commended the Senate President, Senator Godswill Akpabio, for his sterling performance, leadership and contributions to progress and development in Akwa Ibom State and the Nation, describing him as a pillar of progress, and sustainability, which have positively impacted the nation and aligned with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope agenda.
“Senator Akpabio has effectively represented us, as loyal party members, our role is to continue offering him the necessary support and prayers. He has bridged gaps of marginalization within the party, exemplifying the qualities of a true leader committed to good governance,” Ekpoudom added.
During the event, Ekpoudom also announced the passing of his elder brother, Chief Elder Emmanuel Ekpoudom, whom he credited, alongside their mother, for shaping his life and career. He explained that the wrappers distributed were not only for the festive season but also to be worn during his brother’s forthcoming burial, with details to be announced soon.
One of the beneficiaries, Happy Sunday Robert, a women leader in Nto Ebor, expressed her heartfelt appreciation for DIG Ekpoudoms’ unwavering commitment to the welfare of the people. She emphasized that the couple’s support goes beyond the provision of food items, noting that DIG Ekpoudom had also facilitated the education of her daughter through tertiary education. “His generosity has not only uplifted families but has also given hope to the younger generation,” Robert said.
Robert described the gesture as timely, particularly during the festive season when many struggle to make ends meet, while emphasizing that the Ekpoudoms’ dedication to improving lives sets an example for others in positions of influence.
Also speaking, Mrs. Sampson from Uruk Ata Ikot Otok noted that DIG Ekpoudom’s deep love and commitment to uplifting women have been evident through his consistent efforts to cater to their needs.
According to her, his numerous initiatives, which include food distribution and educational support, have greatly impacted the lives of many women and their families. She prayed fervently for God’s continued blessings upon him and his family, describing his contributions as a beacon of hope for many in the community.
She maintained that his humanitarian efforts have provided much-needed relief to women in the community and expressed gratitude for the intervention, which she said has significantly lightened their burdens during challenging times.
“Ekpoudom through various programs that include skill acquisition, scholarships, and financial aid, have established and elevated him as champions of community development and his efforts have continued to inspire as well as empower women, reinforcing their resolve to contribute meaningfully to their families and society,” she enthused
