…Inaugurates Akwa Ibom Branch, Uyo Section 255
The Council Chairperson of the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE), Mrs. Amina Danmadami, has urged engineers to deepen their professional development and drive technical excellence.
She gave the charge during the formal inauguration of the New Branch, Uyo Section 255, held on Friday, August 8, 2025, at Ikot Ekpene, Akwa Ibom State.
Mrs. Danmadami noted that it is the duty of SPE to promote environmental responsibility as a core value, prioritise programmes focused on waste management, emissions reduction, biodiversity protection, and ensure its integrate renewables into petroleum operations.
“Our aim is to strengthen global competence in oil and gas exploration, development, and production”, she added.
In his welcome remarks, the Chairman of SPE Uyo Section 255, Mr. Nkese Essien, described the inauguration as a defining moment not just for institutional growth but as a strategic step forward for Nigeria’s energy sector, particularly in a region critical to the nation’s oil and gas production.
Essien noted that the Uyo Section joins a distinguished global network of SPE professionals committed to technical excellence, innovation, and ethical leadership, and as the newest section under the Nigeria Council, he said, it bears both the privilege and responsibility to make meaningful impact.
He outlined the organisation’s focus areas to include: professional development, innovation and knowledge transfer, youth mentorship, social responsibility and community engagement, collaborative growth, sustainability as well as environmental stewardship.
He pledged their commitment to ensuring that they represent the SPE by creating a mental health awareness campaign in partnership with a growing community-focused initiative for holistic professional practice.
In a goodwill message, Akwa Ibom State Commissioner for Environment, Engr. Nsikak Ekong, commended the milestone, describing it as a testament to the state’s commitment to excellence, innovation, and professional collaboration in the oil and gas sector.
Represented by Engr. Anietie Emah, Director of the Petroleum Resources Directorate, Ekong stressed the SPE’s role in promoting global best practices, sustainable resource development, and technical competency, maintaining that the inauguration aligns with the state government’s efforts to unlock economic opportunities and build platforms for inclusive growth through strategic partnerships and capacity development.
He further congratulated the newly inaugurated members of SPE Uyo Section 255 and explained that Akwa Ibom is richly endowed with hydrocarbon and mineral resources, while reiterating government’s commitment to their sustainable development.
