No fewer than 1,891 residents of Ikot Ekpene Local Government Area in Akwa Ibom State are set to benefit from the Federal Government’s Conditional Cash Transfer (CCT) Programme, with each beneficiary receiving ₦75,000.
The State Commissioner for Humanitarian Affairs, Princess Emem Ibanga, disclosed this on Wednesday during the distribution of debit cards to beneficiaries at the Ikot Ekpene Town Hall.
She explained that the initiative is designed to provide direct financial assistance to poor and vulnerable households, helping to improve their living conditions while strengthening the country’s social protection system.
According to the commissioner, the Conditional Cash Transfer scheme is one of the flagship programmes under the Federal Government’s National Social Investment Programme, which also includes N-Power, the National Home-Grown School Feeding Programme, and grants targeted at vulnerable groups.
Princess Ibanga said measures had been put in place to ensure transparency and accountability throughout the exercise, stressing that only verified beneficiaries would receive the intervention.
She noted that beneficiaries would undergo identity verification before the approved funds are credited to their debit cards.
“The 1,891 beneficiaries in Ikot Ekpene will each receive a total of ₦75,000, representing three monthly payments of ₦25,000,” she said, adding that all recipients were selected from the National Social Register.
She urged beneficiaries to cooperate with officials, adhere to the established guidelines, and maintain order to ensure a smooth distribution process.
The commissioner also commended Akwa Ibom State Governor, Umo Eno, for creating an enabling environment that has supported the successful implementation of the Federal Government’s social intervention programmes in the state.
She further praised President Bola Tinubu for sustaining the National Social Investment Programme, describing the initiative as a clear demonstration of the Federal Government’s commitment to improving the welfare of vulnerable Nigerians.
Princess Ibanga also encouraged eligible residents to obtain their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) and participate in the ongoing voter registration exercise to strengthen democratic participation.
Speaking at the event, the Executive Chairman of Ikot Ekpene Local Government Area, Hon. Aniefiok Nkom, expressed appreciation to the Federal Government’s delegation for extending the programme to the council area.
He appealed to beneficiaries to remain calm, patient, and orderly throughout the exercise, assuring them that every duly verified beneficiary would receive a debit card.
Among those in attendance were the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Mrs. Eno Akpan; General Manager of the Bulk Purchase Agency, Hon. Unyime Etim; political appointees, council stakeholders, and officials of the Conditional Cash Transfer Programme.
