Controversial Nigerian singer, Habeeb Okikiola Badmus, popularly known as Portable, has alleged that wealth and fame are diminishing the creativity of some of the country’s biggest music stars.

In a video shared online, the “Zazu Zeh” crooner claimed that leading artistes, including Wizkid, Davido, Burna Boy and Olamide, have become disconnected from the realities of everyday Nigerians, with their songs increasingly focusing on women, luxury and extravagant lifestyles.

According to Portable, contemporary Nigerian music should offer inspiration, promote positive values and address issues that resonate with the public rather than dwell on materialism.

He urged his colleagues to embrace more conscious and gospel-inspired music, stressing that financial success should not overshadow the responsibility of creating meaningful content.

Portable also warned that wealth is temporary and encouraged fellow musicians to remain humble and use their platforms to positively influence society.

“I’ve noticed that Davido, Wizkid, Burna Boy and Olamide no longer praise God in their songs. They mostly sing about women and luxury. Is it because they have made money and think they can never fall? Their songs no longer motivate people or carry meaningful messages.

“We need more conscious music. People are tired of songs centred on frivolities. I’m also a musician, and I believe we can all do better,” he said.
