Akwa Ibom State Governor, Umo Eno, has paid glowing tribute to the late Lady Eka Maples, describing her as a sincere, dependable, and compassionate woman whose life positively impacted many people.
Speaking at her funeral service held at the Eket Township Stadium in Eket, the governor said the deceased was known for her honesty and commitment to humanity. He noted that she always spoke the truth without fear or favour and remained a loyal friend and supporter throughout her lifetime.
Governor Eno recalled how the late Eka Maples and her father assisted him during the establishment of his Royalty Hotels business in the 1990s, expressing gratitude for their support and kindness.
He said her death was a personal loss, adding that she lived a life devoted to God and service to others. The governor urged members of her family to find comfort in the legacy she left behind and the positive influence she had on people around her.
As part of efforts to honour her memory, Governor Eno announced the launch of an education endowment fund aimed at supporting the education of children.
Delivering a sermon titled “It Is Well,” based on 2 Kings 4:26, the presiding pastor of All Nations Christian Ministry International, Ndaeyo Udomfuk, reminded worshippers that life is temporary and should be lived in submission to God’s will.
He explained that the phrase “It is well” reflects faith in God’s power and sovereignty, encouraging Christians to remain steadfast despite difficult circumstances. The cleric also referenced Horatio Spafford, writer of the hymn “It Is Well With My Soul,” urging believers to maintain faith during trials.
The funeral service was attended by top government officials, including Deputy Governor Akon Eyakenyi, Coordinator of the Office of the First Lady Lady Helen Eno Obareki, Secretary to the State Government Prince Enobong Uwah, members of the State Executive Council, and other dignitaries.
